By Steve Cuozzo. What drew DiSpirito back from the celebrity-chef wilderness into an actual restaurant kitchen? Were TV offers drying up? Or, as he says, was it the irresistible call of a kitchen whose owners were attuned to his own passion for a healthier, environmentally conscious grill menu? DiSpirito, now 52, launched the marvelous, French-influenced fine-dining temple Union Pacific in His original dishes, such as scallops topped with sea urchin, tomato, mustard oil and black mustard, earned three-star reviews in The Post and the Times. One magazine proclaimed him the best new chef in America; another, the sexiest. Then — when he could have gone to any kitchen in the US — he veered off-course, into new-at-the-time reality TV. Things later turned poisonous over control: Chodorow sued to oust DiSpirito, who countersued and blamed Chodorow for ruining the place by, among other things, replacing fresh pasta with frozen.

This Sunday My Kitchen Rules does something really special. For the first time in the They will have 60 minutes to impress the toughest critics to date with their signature dish. The alumni, along with Nic & Rocco (Series 3).
Melbourne’s Thomas and Carla were the fourth team eliminated from the popular cooking show after suffering a complete kitchen meltdown. The mates were easily beaten by Tasmania’s Megan and Andy in the sudden death cook-off, in which the teams were asked to create dishes which showcased the key Queensland ingredients of Moreton Bay bugs, macadamia nuts and mangoes.
In the initial instant restaurant stage of the series, contestants are expected to score each other’s dishes based on merit. Thomas, a podiatrist, and Carla, a speech pathologist, earned the ire of many viewers and some of their fellow contestants after voting strategically in the instant restaurant elimination round to keep themselves in the competition. Despite failing to impress hosts Pete Evans and Manu Feildel with their lamb koftas at their first instant restaurant, the pair decided to make the Middle Eastern dish again in tonight’s cook-off.
As their Paneer cheese and macadamia koftas fell apart, so did the team with Thomas shouting “We’re going home”. While their win-at-all-costs approach put them at odds with the judges, Feildel acknowledged Thomas and Carla had improved as cooks during their time on the show. Tomorrow night, the remaining eight teams are asked to prepare a seafood banquet fit for a king.

How time flies, the fire in the kitchen is about to be lit for another year! This year, we have been teased with promos of a new mysterious female judge to join Pete, Manu and Colin for the instant restaurant rounds. Many names have been thrown around but it looks most likely to be Rachel Khoo. Nigella Lawson is joining MasterChef Australia this year, so definitely not her; Karen Martini is already a regular judge for the Kitchen Headquarter section of the competition for years, so very unlikely; Maggie Beer, nah, silhouette in the promo does not fit, also she belongs to the MasterChef family and already a judge for the revamped The Great Australian Bake Off ; Silvia Colloca?
Amazing stuff!!! This is in respond to the Masterchef post last year that readers cannot post images, etc.
On the way to the truck, “Your family has never come here?” “No, maybe What do you do in the kitchen?” “Saturday So how did you like our first date?” Looking “I’m sorry, it was inappropriate,” but grinned and said, “We have rules here.
Victorian sisters Carly and Emily Cheung just missed out on a place in the My Kitchen Rules grand final when they were eliminated by good friends Nic and Rocco in the semi-final last night. Their Persian-inspired menu of Dukkah crusted scallops, duck confit with duck neck sausage and Persian love cakes was a hit with the judges but not enough to get them through. What was it like cooking against the boys in the semi? For us it was a tricky one to go into. We cooked against Peter and Gary when we were up for elimination earlier in the series, and it was much easier to go in with that fighting spirit and cook our best, whereas with Nic and Rocco it was harder to put it out of our minds that we were cooking against friends.
We certainly gave it our all and cooked as well as we could. The other semi-final was a good eight points above both of our scores. To have friends in the competition is a huge deal, and for us it was really important. We went on the show to have a great time and make friends, and enjoy the experience. Was losing by one point not as hard because you were good friends? Absolutely not. We both did a great job. Are you focussing? Are you serious?

Tonight’s final cook-off is expected to be just as closely fought with the guys’ attention to detail going up against the girls’ creativity. The two-hour viewing feast is also expected to surpass last year’s grand final to set a new ratings record for the reality cooking series.
The pressure will be on the two young teams as they must prepare a five-course menu for a full restaurant, equating to plates to serve per team. Judges Pete Evans and Manu Feildel have made it clear the team that handles the pressure the best will win the crown. The My Kitchen Rules grand final starts at 7.
